Barefoot Running & Primal Living

Using Self-Experimentation to Identify How to Optimize Your Fitness & Lifestyle

In today’s Fit Life After 40 talk I have the pleasure of speaking with Ted McDonald (Barefoot Ted), who is an ultra-runner, barefoot runner, primal life coach and entrepreneur based in Santa Barbara, California. Ted has played a major role in defining and popularizing the natural running movement and is also one of the characters featured in the best-selling book, “Born to Run”, where the natural endurance running movement first gained some notoriety.

Ted has also turned his passion for encouraging people to be comfortable in their own two feet into business by founding Luna Sandals, a company that produces outdoor adventure, hiking and barefoot running sandals.

Turning 57 in July Ted remains committed to rediscovering primal human capacities and mastering simple techniques for optimizing his personal fitness. His fitness philosophy for the last 20 years has been one of self-experimentation, finding one’s own path and following “what makes YOU come alive”.

Ted continues to participate in running events such as the Cooper Canyons Endurance Runs, the Leadville Trail 100 and the Born to Run Ultra Extravaganzas where you will find him trying out his companies latest Luna Sandals.

In our talk Ted shares his personal running journey to discovering running barefoot as a way to run pain free and actually enjoy running. We will talk about his personal barefoot running evolution, how to run barefooted and what he believes are the benefits of running barefoot. We talk about his definition of wellness and how his focus for fitness is on rediscovering primal human capacities.

Ted shares his belief of the importance of taking responsibility for one’s fitness and wellness and the importance of cultivating self-awareness through experimentation what will have the best and optimal results for you. We talk about what Ageless Living means to him, his advice for anyone turning 40 about how to view life and his definition of what living a legendary life means to him. He also gives his top three tips or strategies to optimize your health, wellness whilst giving you a longer life as well as what he believes is the secret to longevity.
